The meeting was called to order by Commission Chair Roger Korell, in the conference room of the Lower Platte South NRD in Lincoln, Nebraska at approximately 8:00 a.m.
Notice of the meeting was placed in the LINCOLN JOURNAL & STAR on May 15, 2003, notifying the public of meetings.
Roger Korell called on Tom Pesek who reviewed the purpose of the meeting and explained that four project sponsors would be briefing the Commission on the status of their respective project. Pesek then reviewed the project assessment notebooks that had been provided to Commission members prior to the meeting.
Representatives of the sponsors of the projects requesting funds for the coming year provided brief presentations regarding their need for funds and the status of each of their projects in the following order:
(1) Antelope Creek – Lower Platte South NRD (Glenn Johnson)
(2) Lake Ericson – Lower Loup NRD (Robert Mohler)
(3) Western Sarpy/Clear Creek – Papio-Missouri River NRD (Steve Oltmans)
(4) Little Sandy Creek Watershed – Little Blue NRD (Mike Onnen)
The sponsors also responded to various questions from the Commission members.
Len Schropfer of rural Tobias spoke in opposition to Site 61 of the Little Sandy Creek Watershed Project and distributed information to the Commission members. Tom Pesek explained that due to the uncertainty that existed regarding the general fund appropriation to the Nebraska Resources Development Fund, the staff was recommending that not even a tentative allocation of funds be made at this time. He added that the Commission at their next regular meeting on
July 8-9, 2003, in Chadron would be able to obligate funds to these projects effective
July 1, 2003.
The meeting was adjourned at approximately 9:40 a.m.
